Oakdale Police Blotter: Bike Thief Left a Replacement

In other reports, someone attempted to break into a home, causing significant damage.

Someone stole a bicycle from the front yard of a home in the 6800 block of Stillwater Boulevard recently, however, they left another bike in its place, according to an Oakdale Police Department report.

A $250 women’s 10-speed bicycle was stolen from the yard between 11 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 25, and 7 a.m. the next day, the report says. The found bike was a women’s 21-speed bicycle that police found was not listed as stolen, according to the report.

The theft victim told police he is possibly interested in claiming the bicycle that was left if its owner doesn’t claim it, the report says.

The following incidents were also reported to Oakdale police Aug. 25-29:

Aug. 25:

  • Someone stole a $1,200 surveillance camera from , causing $200 damage between 4:37 and 4:41 a.m.
  • Four windows and a patio door of a home in the 7800 block of 21st Street were damaged extensively by someone attempting to break in to the residence between 3:30 p.m. Aug. 19 and 7 p.m. Aug. 21. The suspect(s) used a large standard screwdriver or other flat tool, causing $3,000 damage.
  • Someone caused more than $1,000 damage to a vehicle parked in the 7600 block of 22nd Street by scratching it and possibly putting something in its gas tank between 11 p.m. Aug. 24 and 2 a.m. the next day.
  • Two men were arrested after police stopped a car for speeding around noon in the 2800 block of Hadley Avenue. The driver was found to be driving after revocation without car insurance, and police found .07 grams of marijuana and a pipe on the floor by his seat. One of the passengers in the vehicle had a warrant. The driver was dropped off at the nearby Holiday gas station and the other man was booked into the Washington County Jail.
  • A man reported that his wallet was stolen from a car parked in a driveway in the 7700 block of Upper 45th Street. The car’s windows had been left down. The wallet contained $25, a check card and ID cards.

Aug. 26:

  • A 41-year-old Lake Elmo woman was arrested at for allegedly trying to get prescription drugs with a fraudulent prescription. The woman admitted to calling the store, pretending to be a nurse at a doctor’s office, providing a fictitious patient name and requesting to pick up a 30-day prescription of VicoProfen.

Aug. 27:

  • A group of four men allegedly assaulted two men in the parking lot around 1:30 a.m. The suspects, who were gone when police arrived, allegedly struck the two men in the head multiple times. One of the men had a large bump under his right eye, which was swollen shut and bleeding. The other man had several bumps on his head. The men were transported to Regions Hospital.
  • A complainant who was having a garage sale in the 6100 block of 24th Street reported that between 12:30 and 1 p.m., four different groups of adults came to the sale and stole items. She suspects they were all working together. Stolen items include two crystal broaches, six needle packs, a sewing kit and Russian stacking dolls with a total value of $160.
  • A 10-year-old Oakdale boy was transported from S to Children’s Hospital due to a neck injury around 10 a.m. Information about how the boy was injured is not included in the report.

Aug. 28:

  • A 19-year-old woman and 18-year-old man spotted by police in a vehicle in just after midnight were cited for minor consumption of alcohol.
  • Police responded to a home in the 1400 block of Hallmark Avenue around 4 a.m. after receiving a noise complaint. The homeowner stated they were having a “pants off, dance off” party. The homeowner turned down the music.
  • Someone smashed out the passenger-side window of a vehicle parked in a driveway in the 2000 block of Geneva Avenue between 7 p.m. Aug. 27 and 4 a.m. the next day causing $250 damage.
  • A $250 Haro BMX-style bicycle left unlocked and leaning against a light pole behind was stolen.
  • A Cottage Grove woman turning right onto 10th Street from the hit an 11-year-old bicyclist because she didn’t see her. The girl was evaluated, but not transported to the hospital. The driver was cited.
  • Police located a transformer burning on the south side of the roadway at 6100 Seventh Street around 10:33 p.m. The fire department responded and extinguished the fire.

Aug. 29:

  • A resident in the 6800 block of 37th Street reported that someone opened two pieces of her mail and stole the letters inside, leaving the envelopes in her mailbox. One of the stolen letters was from a friend, and the other was from her church.
  • Someone tore the screen and shattered the storm door of a rear entry to the State Farm building at 1513 Geneva Avenue causing $250 damage. Several dent marks were made to the center of the main door.
