Oakdale Police Blotter: Mortgage Company Locks Out Homeowner

In other reports, two men stole a surveillance camera from Oakdale Elementary School.

An Oakdale homeowner whose home was is in the foreclosure/short sale process called police Wednesday, May 5, to report that someone had changed the locks on her home, according to an Oakdale police report.

The resident, whose home is in the 6300 block of 11th Street said she still had legal rights to the property until at least July 5. However, when she went to the house, there was a notice on the door from Mortgage Contracting Services that said the property was determined abandoned/vacant and so the locks were changed, the report says.

The complainant had last been to the home about two weeks ago, the report says.

Police called a representative from the company, but because it was after-hours, limited information was available, according to the report.

May 2:

  • A Maplewood man was cited for inattentive driving after rear-ending a car while it was stopped on westbound 10th Street at Hadley Avenue. He said he was talking on his cell phone and thought the light had turned green.
  • A caller reported that multiple mailboxes in the 5200 to 5400 blocks of Heath Avenue were damaged on April 30 between 1 and 11:30 a.m.
  • Two men stole a $300 surveillance camera mounted outside around 4 a.m. April 30. The men stayed out of the camera’s view. The theft caused $100 damage to the wiring.

 May 3:

  • Between 8 p.m. May 2 and 12:45 p.m. May 3 someone keyed a vehicle in the 3800 block of Granada Way on the doors and fenders causing $1,100 damage.
  • A resident in the 1100 block of Granada Way reported that someone stole their garage door opener and a flashlight from one of their cars, and then opened their garage door and stole a key and remote from another car. The total value of the loss was $280.
  • A man exited his vehicle at around 5:30 p.m. and punched a man pumping gas there several times and scratched his neck. The man who’d been attacked said he knew the suspect. Police are investigating the incident.
  • A woman whose car had been broken into in Woodbury said her credit card had been used three times without authorization at the Oakdale store.

 May 4:

  • Someone broke out the rear topper window from a truck parked in the 4700 block of Hayward Avenue between noon April 29 and noon April 30 causing $200 damage.
  • A car pulling out of on 10th Street and Helmo Avenue struck the rear corner of a school bus causing minor damage. The driver was cited.
  • A 23-year-old Oakdale man reported that he was assaulted at around 10 p.m. May 2. He said a man approached him, and then punched him in the mouth, causing him to need stitches. Police have been trying to contact a suspect.
  • Two men went to a residence in the 900 block of Greenway Avenue to demand money for a prior car accident where the resident damaged their vehicle. Arguing and pushing started. The resident said the men have been harassing him at home and work, and he wanted them be told to go through their insurance companies.
  • Between 3:30 and 4 p.m. May 3, someone enterered an open garage in the 3800 block of Granada Avenue and stole an in-the-box Lexmark printer/copier/scanner/fax, a remote control and a TV converter box. The total value of the items stolen is $130.
  • A driver was backing out of a parking spot at around 3:20 p.m. and hit a parked school bus causing a scratch to the rear of his vehicle. The driver had a revoked license.
  • A gym bag containing $115 worth of items was stolen from an unlocked vehicle in the parking lot between 7:10 and 7:55 p.m.
  • Someone pumped $30 worth of gas and drove off from the station at 10th Street and Helmo Avenue.

May 5:

  • An Oakdale man reported that someone obtained his checking account information and used it to make purchases in New York and Pennsylvania totaling $720.
