Along With Dreamcoat Coffee, Salvation Army Closes Oakdale Boutique

The joint enterprise wasn't making enough money, according to a Salvation Army spokesperson.

The Salvation Army closed both its Oakdale boutique and Dreamcoat Coffee last month.

“It just wasn’t able to make enough money to run, even break even,” said Annette Bauer, Salvation Army spokeswoman.

Both Dreamcoat and the Salvation Army boutique, the first of its kind in the area, closed April 20.

“We had lovely, very loyal core group of people,” Bauer said.

The hope was that higher-end items would be donated at the boutique, helping sustain both entities, Bauer said.

“It just wasn’t working for us,” she said.

Bauer did laud the Carlsons for their work at Dreamcoat and the “hard work, ingenuity and creativity” of those involved with the joint enterprise.

The coffee shop opened in late 2010, and the boutique in early 2011.
