Kids Planner: Get Wet This Week

A few ideas to enjoy the water with kids.

In the Land of 10,000 Lakes, what's summer without fun in the water? Here are some fun ways to enjoy the waters with your kids this week and beyond.

Padelford Riverboats  

  • When/Where: Almost every day at 12 and 2 p.m. leaving from Harriet Island in St. Paul.
  • Why Go: This is a great way to see the Mississippi. Cruises are 1.5 hours.
  • Geared Toward: The whole family—bring Grandma and Grandpa!
  • Price: $16 per adult, $8 children (3-12).

Canoe the St. Croix  

  • When/Where: All day every day at either William O’Brien or Interstate Park.
  • Why Go: See the St. Croix at a more scenic pace from your canoe or kayak.
  • Geared Toward: The whole family but probably best for school-age and older.
  • Price: Day rental is $43.04 per canoe/kayak.

Peer into the Pond

  • When/Where: Saturday, May 28, from 1-2:30 p.m. at the Maplewood Nature Center.
  • Why Go: Your little ones will love catching minnows, snails and other water creatures along the floating boardwalk.
  • Geared Toward: Children 5 years old and up with an adult.
  • Price: Free—must call to preregister.

 

Lake Elmo Park Reserve

  • When/Where: All day, every day at Lake Elmo Park Reserve.
  • Why Go: Take the kids and pack a picnic for a full day at this park.  Activities include swimming, a huge playground, fishing and if you still have energy you can pitch a tent and spend the night in the campground.
  • Geared Toward: Everyone!
  • Price: $5 daily vehicle permit or $25 annual permit.

 

 Plan Ahead: Click, Clack, Moo

  •  When/Where: Friday, June 3, at the .
  • Why Go: Learn all about cows!
  • Geared Toward: Children 3 – 10. (9-10:30 a.m. session for 3-6 year olds and 11-12:30 for 7-10 year olds)
  • Price: $7 per participant.
  • Register by: May 27.
