More than 15 Oakdale neighborhoods signed up to host block parties in honor of Night to Unite and National Night Out.

Neighbors gathered to to share food and beverages, meet their neighbors and promote safety and community partnerships.

The Oakdale Fire Department, EMS and Police Department made the rounds to neighborhood parties to explain their jobs, show off their equipment and meet with residents.

Night to Unite and National Night Out are events held every year to:

  • Raise crime and drug prevention awareness
  • Generate support for, and participation in, local anti-crime programs
  • Strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships
  • Send a message to criminals letting them know that neighborhoods are organized and fighting back
