Oakdale Psychic Practices Family Profession

Joan Jacqueline has scores of loyal clients.

Joan Jacqueline, master psychic and owner of the Oakdale store ,  has worked as a psychic for 46 years. She said she comes from a long lineage, with psychic abilities recognized in one woman per generation from  her family for at least 600 years.

Jacqueline says she has a 90 percent rate of accuracy. She reads from a regular deck of cards, answering questions. Her clients are faithful, as evidenced by her guest registry filled with praise and appointments booked solid. Oakdale Patch recently spoke with Jacqueline to learn more about her life’s work.

Oakdale Patch: Was there a moment when you realized you had psychic abilities?
Joan Jacqueline: I used to listen to my mother and grandmother do readings and felt very comfortable. I grew up with it, so there is not any particular moment—it’s just a way of life. My mother did this for a living, and my grandmother was a nurse who also did readings for everyone in her town. It didn’t seem out of the ordinary at all.

Oakdale Patch: To many people, fortune telling seems so exotic and mysterious. I am sure  people always want to hear all about it.
Jacqueline: We lived in a small town, but my mother and grandmother were very accepted. We never experienced negativity. I think people knew we were “the real McCoy.”

In those days, when my grandmother and great grandmother were little, they would do reading in the parlor, and nobody else was supposed to know. Then my grandmother would read on Sundays and our house would be full of priests and pastors, they all would be talking theology. Everyone accepted our family, there were no labels on us.

Oakdale Patch: What sort of readings did your mother and grandmother do?
Jacqueline: They read like I do—using a plain deck of cards, which is the original way of reading before palmistry. Nobody knows how far back that method goes, some say before the time of Christ. Now I am the last one in the line in Minnesota, although I have a niece in North Carolina who does readings.

Oakdale Patch: What kinds of questions do your clients ask?
Jacqueline: In the ‘70s, everyone wanted to know if they were going to find the love of their life, nowadays they are wanting to know if they are going to keep their homes, how are they going to pay for their kid's college, is their job is secure? It’s a big responsibility. Eighty percent of my clients are repeat customers. I am reading for the third generation now.

Oakdale Patch: Do you ever find it draining?
Jacqueline: Yes, I always try to do no more than five readings in a day, maybe three in the daytime, come back for  a couple more at night. I could do more when I was younger, but I also read both Saturday and Sunday for clients who can’t get here during the week.

Oakdale Patch: You must get a lot of skeptics.
Jacqueline:  The skeptics are my favorite. I love to show them what I can do. But this is all I have ever done and I'm  good at  it. Being a psychic is a God-given gift and I get a lot of respect. I can’t imagine anything else.
