Best Bets of the Week for Families

Check out a concert, historical exhibit or nearby water park with your kids.

Even though the meteorologists say spring is just around the corner there is still plenty of snow out there, so we’ve given you some great indoor (and outdoor) activities to get us through these last few weeks of winter.

 Concert in the Park 

  • When/Where: Thursday, March 3 at 7 p.m. at the in Woodbury.
  • Why Go:  Kid friendly rock 'n' roll by The Bazillions is enough to put anybody in a good mood—especially on a Thursday night.
  • Geared Toward: The whole family but the younger school age children will probably enjoy this most.
  • Price: Free.

Happy Birthday Dr. Seuss

  •  When/Where: Wednesday, March 2 from 3:30 – 5 p.m. at the Central Library at 90 Fourth St. W. in downtown St. Paul.
  • Why Go:  Bring Thing 1 and Thing 2 and celebrate with the Cat in the Hat.  Stories, games and crafts will put you in the mood.  Sorry—no green eggs and ham.
  • Geared Toward: preschool through 8 years old.
  • Price: Free.

George Washington at the History Center

  •  When/Where: Daily through May 29 at the History Center in St. Paul.
  • Why Go:  The kids will think George Washington is way cooler than what they heard in history class after visiting this exhibit. 
  • Geared Toward: school age and older.
  • Price: Varies. Check out a museum pass at the local library for two free admissions. The museum is also free on Tuesday evenings.

Water Park at Maplewood Community Center

  • When/Where: Daily from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. at the Maplewood Community Center.
  • Why Go:  If you need a break from the cold and already bought new swimsuits for summer, you can break them in here. The zero depth entry area includes a kid’s play area with plenty of spraying water toys. There is also a water slide and the water is kept at 87 degrees.
  • Geared Toward:  The whole family. There is even a whirlpool for mom and dad.
  • Price: Non-resident admission is $7 per youth and $9 per adult.

 Baby Storytime

  • When/Where: Monday, March 7 from 10:30-11 a.m. at the Oakdale Branch Library
  • Why Go: The littlest members of the family are often just along for the ride.  This story time is just for them! 
  • Geared Toward: Wee ones birth to 24 months, but siblings are welcome too.
  • Price: Free.
