After Thoughts of Moving, Oakdale's Plaza Garibaldi is Staying Put
The restaurant is trying to make changes to respond to the economy.
After considering a move to a smaller location, the management at has decided to keep the restaurant in its current Bergen Plaza spot, said manager Jorge Fuentes.
“We’re just going to stick to our guns and just deal with it and see what the future brings,” he said. “A lot of people are concerned, and we would like them to know that we are going to stay and they can keep coming back to this place.”
The Mexican restaurant’s management and owners started considering a move in February after some rough months at the end of last year and early this year, he said.

But business started picking up in June, he said.
To turn things around, the restaurant is offering a number of new specials including 75 cent tacos on Mondays and “kids eat free” days on Sundays.

“We have to adjust to their budget because people are not making the same amount of money they made four or five years ago,” he said. “As much as we need their help, they need our help to watch their pocketbooks.”
Cutting prices is tough, he said, because the cost of ingredients continues to rise, however, it’s part of adapting to the changes in the economy, he said.
In addition to price cuts, he said, the restaurant plans to start offering salsa dancing lessons on Thursday nights.
Plaza Garibaldi has been open at 7129 10th St. N. for five years.
