Bites Nearby: A Special Themed Luncheon at the Woodbury Villa
The secret is out about this unique dining experience.
The secret is out about this extraordinary luncheon spot!
If youʼre looking for an exceptional luncheon experience, then make your reservation now at the Woodbury Villa! The Woodbury Villa is located at the Woodbury Senior Living campus on the corner of Lake Road and Woodlane Drive.
Most locals donʼt know that dining at the Villa is open to the public. Campus marketing director, Angela Regan, said that joining seniors for lunch has always been open to the public, but a new initiative to create a few themed luncheons throughout the year has been started.
Activity Director Margaret Wachholz said, “Itʼs a great way for some of our senior residents and the local community to interact with one another.” Wachholz, who has only been working at the campus for about a year and a half, has already created an electrical buzz that is lighting up the seniors on campus.

“We love getting the residents involved during these luncheons. For instance, a resident might sing a quick song, read a piece or two of their written work or share their colorful artwork with diners,” said Wachholz. Of course, storytelling is always a perk for diners.
Recently, I was privileged to experience an Irish Tea Time themed luncheon at the Villa. Wachholz, who is from Ireland, prepared and conducted what would be a proper Irish tea in her homeland. Her years of work experience in the Irish hotel hospitality, catering and management industry, gives her a real edge when designing these themed luncheons. Everything Wachholz does is done with energy and passion, so for us diners, it was a genuine treat!

We got a real taste of the traditional Irish tea time foods such as creamy, crab filled deviled eggs, tangy cucumber cream cheese salad, prosciutto and Brie cheese, chilled, thin-cut, roast beef slices topped a flavorful red pepper mousse, fresh baked Irish soda bread, currant scones and strawberry jam.
Traditional sweets served were homemade Scottish melt-in-your-mouth shortbread, sweet meringues, mini-chocolate bundt cakes, and fresh baked apple crostata. Wachholz was kind enough to share her imported Irish tea with us and even instructed us to pour a spot of milk into our tea to balance it out.
Resident Ed Lidell provided a little song and Pat Webster read one of her short Irish stories. These themed cozy luncheons at the Villa are truly an extraordinary experience you wonʼt want to miss! Space is very limited for us locals, so you must get your reservations in early.
Regan said the community is always welcome to enjoy an everyday lunch with the seniors. Simply call ahead for your reservation and pricing.
