Bites Nearby: Taste It at Woodbury Days!

Whether you're tasting some of the local restaurants' signature dish selections or nibbling on traditional fried fair foods, you'll find it all at this year's Taste of Woodbury, sponsored by City and County Credit Union.

It’s an annual sign of summer’s end, but that doesn’t mean the fun is done! Next weekend is Woodbury Days (Aug. 26-28)!

You could say it's Woodbury’s, and other surrounding communities', biggest family get-together. From local restaurants cooking up their signature dishes to nonprofits offering traditional fair foods, there’s something for everyone at Woodbury Days Taste of Woodbury!

Patch has highlighted just a few of the vendors that have signature items available at their booths.

Great Harvest Bread

Co-owner Natasha Fleischman said, “We’re offering a grab and go lunch item called savory pockets.”  The pocket is a whole grain dough that’s filled with a tangy cheese filling, wrapped and baked up fresh daily. For those of you who like it hot and spicy, try their red-chili cheddar savory pocket.

Scruffins, Great Harvest Bread’s version of scones, are moist like a muffin. “We’ll be offering a selection of fresh baked assorted berry and cinnamon chip scruffins at the Taste this year,” said Fleischman.

Sati Coffee and Crepes

According to Karen Mohs, owner of Sati Coffee and Crepes, five different varieties of crepes will be offered. “Cinnamon sugar, Nutella (an imported hazelnut spread), strawberry, fresh berry and a combo that includes Nutella, strawberry and banana, will be available this year,” Mohs said.

Order one of Sati’s crepes, and combine it with a cool and refreshing Sati iced tea. Mohs said iced tea selections will be: iced tea with fresh lemon, lemonade, raspberry with fresh whole raspberries, peach mango or passion fruit. Order a fresh berry crepe and a raspberry iced tea and you have another perfect pairing!

MaggieMoo’s

Frozen fruit smoothies will be offered at the MaggieMoo’s booth, said Michele Eller, co-owner of MaggieMoo’s in Woodbury. “The strawberry banana is our best seller at Woodbury Days. It’s healthy, delicious and low-calorie, too,” Eller said.

Another refreshing smoothie is their creamy mango. Made with their own mango sorbet and orange juice, it’s both sweet and tangy. Berry lovers will want to try the triple berry pomegranate. A combination of raspberry sorbet, strawberries, blueberries and pomegranate juice, it even contains natural antioxidants!

A new creation this year, is the MaggieMoo cone cupcake. “Our cone cupcake is made with a chocolate-dipped, cake cone, stuffed with a cupcake, and then topped with buttercream frosting and sprinkles. It contains no ice cream, but looks just like an ice cream cone!” Ellers said.  It’s the ideal food item to walk about with and it won’t melt! The cone cupcake is exclusive at Woodbury Days.

Dino’s-The Greek Place

A popular favorite amongst locals every year are the Dino’s original (a mixture of Greek seasoned lamb and beef) and chicken gyro. Filled with sliced white onions and ripe tomatoes, their gyros are then covered in Dino’s own rich and creamy, tzatsiki dressing. Yum!

Pastry lovers won’t want to miss Dino’s homemade baklava. Each paper-thin layer of crispy and buttery phyllo dough is brushed with a cinnamon-honey mixture, and then sprinkled with finely chopped walnuts. A yummy sweet treat for all ages.
