Furlong's Liquor Named 2011 Business of the Year by Oakdale Association

Oakdale Mayor Carmen Sarrack announced the winning business at the community picnic Thursday.

was named the Oakdale Business and Professional Association’s Business of the Year for 2011, Mayor Carmen Sarrack announced at Oakdale’s community picnic Thursday, June 16, at Fire Hall No. 1.

Furlong’s was chosen due to owner Terry Furlong’s extensive community involvement over the past 20 years, said business association president Rick Timm.

“Almost every program we had, he was involved,” Timm said. “He was president of the board at one point, on the board at least a dozen years, and every event, he’s volunteered for, so it was well-deserved.”

Furlong’s Liquor, located at 4777 Geneva Ave., opened 24 years ago, Terry Furlong said. At the business, they’ve always made community involvement high-priority, he said.

“Being part of the community— it’s good for business,” he said.

Furlong helped start the Holiday Helping Hands program, which provides Christmas gifts to local families in need. He is also in his third year on the North St. Paul City Council.
