Oakdale Small Business Grows After Summer Launch

Business is moving forward for Nikki Griffin.

Nikki Griffin's vision for her small business has somewhat changed.

After launching EyeStyles Optical & Boutique in July, Griffin has now added an optometrist to her staff as of September.

"I had no hope of getting a doctor in here, but I was surprised to find someone so soon who was such a great fit," Griffin said.

Joining Griffin is Sara Mabie, an optometrist with more than a decade of experience in the field. Mabie received her degree from the Illinois School of Optometry in 1996 and has worked at Vision World and leased two Target opticals for the past 12 years.

This year Mabie said that she was ready for a change, but she wasn't quite sure what it would look like. When Mabie was in the midst of figuring out what she might want to do, she found Griffin's ad seeking an optometrist.

"I've haven't done anything like this before," Mabie said. "It's been quieter than I'm used to, but I'm excited for the future opportunities."

Now that she works for a small business, Mabie said that EyeStyles offers more flexibility than "bigger corporations."

Mabie works four days a week and people can make their appointments by calling EyeStyles or going online.

In addition to bringing on Mabie, Griffin said EyeStyles will be hosting a Christmas open house from 4-9 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 4. Food will be provided by Rocco's Pizza, door prizes and special deals for the holidays.
