Ronald McDonald Stops in Oakdale for Groundbreaking

A new McDonald's restaurant near Oakdale's Target store is scheduled to open in August.

Ronald McDonald had a lot of help Wednesday breaking ground on a new McDonald’s restaurant scheduled to open in August near Oakdale’s Target and .

“We’re looking forward to being good and socially responsible neighbors,” said franchise owner Oscar Binder at the groundbreaking ceremony.

Binder said construction will start before the end of May, the building will be up by the end of June and during July they’ll be installing the store’s equipment.

Rep. Nora Slawik—who reported that Tuesday night's floor session in the Minnesota House had adjourned just about three hours before the 10 a.m. ceremony—said she is happy to see more jobs being created in town by the new restaurant, which will employ 70 people.

“The big mantra down at the state Capitol is jobs, jobs, jobs and I’m just thrilled to be here to see jobs happening,” Slawik said. “It’s all about the economy, getting the economy back on track, and I think you’re a part of that success.”

Oakdale Mayor Carmen Sarrack said he thinks the new restaurant will bring more businesses to the area, and help those that are already there.

“It’ll sure help , and there’s plenty of customers across the street in the Imation building, so I think it’ll be a huge success,” Sarrack said. “Especially in today’s economy it’s really nice to see this happen.”
