Think About Shopping Local This Holiday Season

The city of Oakdale and the Oakdale Business and Professional Association urge residents to support local businesses during their holiday shopping.

The city of Oakdale is making a holiday request: Please shop local.

For the first time, the City Council, the Economic Development Commission and the Oakdale Business and Professional Association (OBPA) are putting out a joint letter that stresses the importance of shopping locally this holiday season.

The letter asks residents to visit Oakdale businesses for all "shopping, dining and professional service needs." By doing so, residents will help "boister" Oakdale's "vitality and quality of life."

Mayor Carmen Sarrack said the three groups hope the letter will help residents keep Oakdale businesses in mind during their shopping experiences.

"We want our businesses to succeed in the city and it'd be nice if our citizens shopped in our own city," Sarrack said. "We're trying to promote the businesses and try to keep people shopping locally."
