Visions for Vacancies: What Would You Like to See on This Corner Lot?

Tell us what you'd like to see on this open space.

What—besides grass—would you like to see cover the lot at the southwest corner of 15th Street and Helmo Avenue?

The lot is almost 3 acres, that could be divided into three lots, and it’s zoned commercial, said owner Pat Jordan. There are a few restrictions on the land, Jordan said. Any development there can’t include a drive-through or an auto repair shop, she said.

The land wasn’t always so green. It was once used for outdoor storage of vehicles, along with the adjacent land that now houses North Star Mini Storage, Jordan said. When the storage business was built in 2006, she said, they decided to leave the corner space open for retail.

“We thought it had more value for retail, and then the economy changed dramatically and development kind of quieted,” Jordan said. “Hopefully as the economy starts to improve, we may get some activity.”
