Woman Opens Oakdale Moms on the Run

The seasonal business runs April through August.

Promising “accountability and friendship,” Janell Walter has opened a local chapter of Moms on the Run.

The seasonal business begins its schedule April 22, running (literally) through Aug. 24, said Walter, who owns the Oakdale-Lake Elmo franchise.

It is geared toward women, usually ages 25-60, she said.

“It is called Moms on the Run,” Walter said. “But you don’t have to be a mom.”

She said those who join typically come for the fitness, at first.

“But they come back year after year for the friendship,” said Walter, who started running five years ago as part of a way to get in shape.

She now competes in races and running has become her “passion.”

Classes are set for Tuesday evenings and Saturday mornings at the Lake Elmo Park Reserve. Strength training is also part of the “coached interval training program,” said Walter, who is currently pursuing her personal training certification.
