Editor’s Notebook: Oakdale Ice Rinks Closed for the Season

Oakdale's parks department closed down the city's last three open ice rinks on Thursday.

City Ice Rinks Closed for the Season: Last Thursday, Oakdale’s parks department closed down the three ice rinks that were still open—the Walton pleasure rink, Northdale hockey rink and Golfview pleasure rink—due to the unseasonably warm weather, Oakdale Parks Superintendent Randy Bastyr told the Oakdale Parks and Recreation Commission at its meeting Tuesday. The rinks were drained Friday, he said.

“We got a lot more use out of them than we ever imagined for the warm weather we had,” he said, “so it went well.”

MnDOT Looking for Landscapers: The Minnesota Department of Transportation put out a call for bids to plant trees and shrubs on the east property line of its facility north of Highway 5 and west of Interstate 694. The project specifications estimate it will cost about $70,000. MnDOT drew criticism from the mayor and others for the look of a new, large salt storage shed at the site, however officials promised to do more to screen the shed from view.
