Five Things You Should Know Today: Aug. 15

Nominations are being taken for Oakdale's volunteer of the year.

  1. Today's weather will be mostly sunny with a high near 83 degrees according to the National Weather Service forecast.
  2. Nominations for Oakdale’s volunteer of the year are being taken through Oct. 15. If you want to nominate someone, call 651-730-2704.
  3. The Okee Dokee Brothers are performing tonight at 6:30 p.m. at Stillwater’s Washington Square Park.
  4. World-famous and oft-imitated chef Julia Child was born on this day in 1912. She died in 2004 at age 91, however her kitchen remains on display at the National Museum of American History.
  5. It’s Elvis Week, and a vigil in Elvis Presley’s honor will take place from 8:30 to 10 p.m. tonight. Since you’re probably not in Memphis, you can watch the live online broadcast of the event.
