1. Today’s forecast calls for sunny weather with a high near 86.
2. A huge tomato fight—patterned after a Spanish tomato-throwing festival called La Tomatina—takes place Sunday at Afton Alps Recreation Area.
3. You can help the efforts to construct a veterans’ memorial in Oakdale by dining at Denny’s at 255 Century Avenue on Mondays and Tuesdays in August from 4 to 10 p.m. 10 percent of sales will benefit the project.
4. Magician Norm Barnhart will be at Woodbury’s Ojibway Park at 11 a.m. today.
5. On this day in 1958, NASA was created, according to History.com, in response to the Soviet Union’s launch of Sputnik I.
