Five Things You Should Know Today: June 23

Summerfest starts today with rides, Bingo and the Ted Bearth Grande Parade.

  1. There’s a 50/50 chance of rain or drizzle today, with a high near 63, according to the National Weather Service forecast
  2. Summerfest starts today! The carnival rides and Bingo tent open at 5 p.m. and then the Ted Bearth Grande Parade begins at 6:30 p.m., traveling east on 15th Street from Geneva Avenue to Hadley Avenue. Grand Marshals this year are members of the Minnesota Paralyzed Veterans. Click here for a full schedule of Summerfest events. 
  3. Oakdale Patch will have a booth at Summerfest Thursday through Sunday. Please stop by and see us!
  4. A Ramsey County Judge is set to hear today from lawyers for Gov. Mark Dayton, the State of Minnesota and Republicans about which state services should keep functioning in the event of a Minnesota state government shutdown. 
  5. On this day in 1989, the movie “Batman” was released nationwide, according to on-this-day.com. Since then five more Batman movies have been made, not including animated films.
