Five Things You Should Know Today: June 27

Thunderstorms likely; famous Gone with the Wind line filmed on this day.

  1. Showers and thunderstorms are likely today—especially this morning before 10 a.m., according to the National Weather Service forecast. The high will be near 76, the forecast says.

  3. Minnesota legislative leaders and Gov. Mark Dayton met Saturday and Sunday in closed-door sessions to try to reach a budget agreement with the July 1 government shutdown deadline looming. The parties met for eight hours Saturday, but ended negotiations after only an hour Sunday, Minnesota Public Radio reports
  4. On this day in 1939, the famous line from Gone with the Wind, “Frankly, my dear, I don’t give a damn,” was filmed, along with the alternate, toned-down version, “Frankly my dear, I just don’t care,” according to History.com.
  5. Helen Keller was born on this day in 1880. The blind and deaf educator was quoted as saying, “Life is an exciting business, and most exciting when it is lived for others.”
