Five Things You Should Know Today: Library Offers Books for Kindles, Sign Up for Cider-Making Workshop

Five things you should know on Monday, Sept. 26.

1. There's a 30 percent chance of showers today, according to the National Weather Service forecast. It will be mostly cloudy, with a high near 66.

2. You can now check out books from Washington County libraries and read them on your Kindle, or any device running the Kindle app, such as an iPhone, iPad or Android device through Overdrive. The system is also compatible with most other eBook readers as well as smartphones and mp3 players. Check out the library’s website for more information.

3. Speaking of the library, enjoy the free passes to museums offered there while you can—the Star Tribune reported that the Museum Adventure Pass program will be no more in 2012 due to tight budgets.

4. Registrations are due Wednesday for a session on how to make apple cider from 1 to 3 p.m. Oct. 1 at the . The cost is $8, but you get to take a half-gallon of cider home with you. To register, call 651-747-3860.

5. The City of Oakdale posted a reminder on its Facebook Page last week about the rules for backyard fires. Fires must be limited to 3 feet in height and 2 feet in width and contained in a noncombustible fire ring at least 25 feet away from any structure. They should be located close to a water source, and not left unattended, and you can’t burn trash, furniture, leaves, tires or paper.
