Five Things You Should Know Today: Sept. 2

Precipitation likely today; make sure your senior's signed up for the ACT.

  1. Showers and thunderstorms before 10 a.m. are likely today, according to the National Weather Service forecast. There’s a 60 percent chance of precipitation today, the forecast says, and the weather will be mostly cloudy, with a high near 78.
  2. Have a high school senior? guidance counselors are warning on the office’s Facebook page that registrations are due Sept. 16 to get into the Oct. 22 ACT test. That’s the last testing date for which students can receive their results before most college applications are due.
  3. Start Labor Day weekend with some stargazing, if you’re so inclined, by going to Lake Elmo Park Reserve at 8 p.m. tonight. WCCO radio’s meteorologist Mike Lynch will lead a starwatch where attendees can learn about constellations and use large reflecting telescopes.
  4. Washington County Library branches will be closed Monday, Sept. 5, for Labor Day.
  5. Are you going to be doing some grilling this weekend? Check out these tips from the owner of Croix Valley Steak Sauces for getting the perfect barbecued chicken.
