Five Things You Should Know Today: September 27

The Oakdale City Council is scheduled to re-open its discussion on pawnshops at tonight's meeting.

1. There's a 40 percent chance of rain today and it'll be mostly cloudy with a high near 68, according to the National Weather Service forecast.

2. Famed chimpanzee researcher Jane Goodall appears at 7 p.m. tonight in a live event that will be shown at theaters nationwide, including Oakdale’s Marcus Theater. People can submit questions for Goodall on the event’s Facebook page.

3. Also tonight, the Oakdale City Council is set to talk more about whether they want to put stricter rules on pawnshops in place.

4. There’s a volunteer expo from 4 to 7 p.m. today in Stillwater that’s organized by Community Thread. The expo will include information on a variety of St. Croix Valley nonprofits.

5. September is, "Happy Cat Month." To celebrate the Catalyst Council recommends taking your cat outside—on a leash or in a confined area—or training your cat to do a trick. See the full list of suggestions on their website.
