Holiday Chemistry Magic Show, Adults-Only Jumping Event Tonight

Five things you should know today, Wednesday, December 14

1. The National Weather Service predicts rain, mostly after noon, today. The high will be near 39, and the chance of precipitation is 80 percent, the forecast says.

2. Oakdale’s is having its first ever 21-plus night from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. tonight.

3. Two Century College chemistry professors are putting on their annual holiday chemistry magic show tonight at 7 p.m. According to the event listing, “this annual event features about two dozen colorful activities that mix chemical elements in fiery, noisy, bubbly and sometimes explosive ways.”

4. It’s Monkey Day. It was mentioned in an NPR story, so it has to be real. How to celebrate … bananas, maybe, or by watching Curious George?

5. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, $983 million was the value of U.S. imports of Christmas tree ornaments from China between January and September of this year. China was the leading country of origin for Christmas tree ornaments and artificial trees.
