Oakdale Under Wind Advisory, Winter Storm Warning for New Year's Eve

The National Weather Service is forecasting "a dangerous storm" with weather conditions rapidly changing from rain to snow and blowing snow in the Oakdale area. Up to 5 inches of snow is possible.

The first widespread winter storm of the season will bring strong winds and snow to the Oakdale area late this afternoon into tonight, according to the National Weather Service.

The National Weather Service forecasts:

A mix of rain and snow will develop over west central and southwest Minnesota late this afternoon that wil change rapidly to snow during the early evening hours.

Snowfall could add up to 3 to 4 inches are possible within a few hours. Strong winds of 25 to 35 mph are also expected to develop tonight causing snow to drift and blow, and poor visibility.

"This is a dangerous storm in that weather conditions will change very rapidly from a period of mixed precipitation to snow and blowing snow," the warning says.
