- Oakdale has more jobs than it did in 2007, before the recession started, but it also has a higher unemployment rate than Washington County and Minnesota.
- The Oakdale City Council approved plans for four deer hunts in October and November and ask staff to draft an ordinance that would ban salt licks to cut down on the city’s deer population.
- Western Bank—Oakdale’s first—celebrated its 25th anniversary this month.
- Although the volunteer committee hoped to have a veterans memorial constructed in time for Veterans Day this year (11/11/11), the Oakdale City Council decided the project would have to wait until 2012 to give the city another chance to get state bonding money.
- Oakdale City Council members supported a tax levy plan that would reduce the city’s 2012 tax levy by $49,000, but still provide funding for lighting the ball field at Tanners Lake Park and construction a veterans memorial if needed.
- Oakdale’s M&I bank is one of 13 nationwide that is being closed. The branch is under-utilized, a company spokesman said.
- The City of Oakdale might not hold a citywide cleanup day in 2012 to save money.
