Week in Review: Beach Bathrooms, Yellow Ribbon Designation and Lots of Political Candidates in the News
Here's a summary of the past week's Oakdale news.
- Oakdale’s parks department is still seeking a community group to operate the concession stand in the building at Tanner’s Lake Beach as a fundraiser. The group can use the space rent-free, but will be asked to keep the bathrooms unlocked while they’re there and report any problems to the police.
- Oakdale officially became a Yellow Ribbon City Friday, which signifies that community volunteers are collaborating to help meet the needs of members of the military and their families.
- A number of area residents announced their candidacy for political offices. Woodbury’s Ron Seiford announced he’ll see the Republican endorsement to run for Congress against Rep. Betty McCollum in the 4th District. Woodbury's Susan Kent got the DFL endorsement over Oakdale’s John Becker to run for Minnesota Senate in District 53. JoAnn Ward, of Woodbury, announced she’ll seek the DFL endorsement for the House District 53A seat. District 622 School Board Member Pam Cunningham got the Republican endorsement to run for the House District 53A seat.
- The Oakdale City Council approved new voting precincts for the south portion of the city to align with new Minnesota Senate and House districts.
- Funding for the planned Oakdale Veterans Memorial made it to the Minnesota Senate GOP’s bonding recommendation.
- School District 622 is planning a program for 4-year-olds.
- This week’s Oakdale Patch Whiz Kids were Tartan students Madeline Waggener, Lindsey Miller and Joseph Thien Vu, whose artwork made the Best 100 art show.
- In police news: A home was burglarized while its residents slept, a man crashed his car and then fled on foot, a woman was cited for falsely reporting a robbery and three car thefts were reported.
