Week in Review: June 19 Edition
Bill Pulkrabek was charged with a misdemeanor and the mall came a-tumbling down.
Here’s what made news in Oakdale during the past week:
- On Wednesday, the City of Oakdale held its symbolic demolition of the Oakdale Mall. We have photos and video (courtesy of blogger Dallas Pierson) on the site.
- In addition to the big Oakdale Mall event, the first show in Oakdale’s Summer Concert series took place Wednesday.
- On Wednesday, Washington County Commissioner and former Oakdale mayor Bill Pulkrabek was charged with misdemeanor domestic assault in connection with an alleged Memorial Day incident involving his girlfriend at his Woodbury home.
- Oakdale’s community picnic was Thursday at the Oakdale Fire Department headquarters.
- Furlong’s Liquor was named Oakdale Business of the Year for 2011 Thursday.
- We profiled Oakdale resident Les Larson, who houses six pet chickens in his backyard.
- A fire Thursday at a Tubman family violence shelter in Lake Elmo displaced the families staying there and increased the urgency to make improvements to Tubman’s new facility at Century and Larpenteur avenues, a board member said.
- In Sports: Tartan and North high schools both had track and field team members place in the state tournament last weekend. Golfers Rochelle Dotas and Jordan Bachmeier played in the state golf tournament as well.
