Here's what happened in Oakdale over the last week:
- Skyview Community School students spoke at a memorial service for their friends Jace and Jersey DeHaven who were slain at the hands of their father in a murder-suicide.
- Leaders of the Minnesota House and Senate said they would hold hearings to investigate the decision to grant parole to Tim Eling, the man who shot and killed Oakdale police officer Richard Walton in 1982.
- English teacher Nancy Olson reflected on dealing with the grief of her daughter’s murder at a luncheon for educators.
- The Oakdale City Council passed tougher restrictions on feeding wildlife that will make it a violation of city law to leave food out for animals within 5 feet of the ground.
- Solar panels will be installed on the roof at Oakdale City Hall before the end of the year, but not the two fire stations, as proposed.
- Oakdale’s Oak Run Shores neighborhood successfully petitioned the city for three stop signs along Heron Avenue at Seventh Street, Ninth Street and Henslow Avenue.
- Two men were charged in connection with a burglary and series of car break-ins in Oakdale that occurred in the early morning hours Oct. 14.
- Washington County Administrator Jim Schug announced that he’ll retire in January.
- Tartan High School is currently performing the play M*A*S*H.
- In Sports: The North High School boys soccer team was eliminated from the state tournament after falling to Maple Grove. North High School’s football team ended its season with a loss to Totino-Grace High School. Tartan’s football season also came to an end with a loss to Stillwater.
