May is Time for Mulch Madness!

Do-it-yourself landscaping tips/resources from the VP and professionals at Patio Town in Oakdale, Burnsville and Brooklyn Park and its design/build division, Villa Landscapes.

It’s the season for mulch madness!

May is the best time to get outside, look around and see where layers of mulch can beautify and enhance your landscape. We LOVE mulch at Patio Town, and here’s five reasons why you should love it too.

  1. It’s a Weed Wacker. A thick layer (at least 4 – 6 inches) will prevent many weeds seeds from germinating this time of year, reducing the need for herbicides plus the dreaded task of pulling weeds later in the season!
  2. It’s a Moisture Maker. Mulch around trees, shrubs, flower beds and elsewhere in your yard helps the ground retain moisture, reducing the need for watering, which is especially important in a dry summer like last year.
  3. It’s Eco-Friendly. Made from cedar, cypress and other hardwoods, mulch decomposes naturally, enriching the soil with nutrients. And it reduces the need for herbicides as a natural weed preventer!
  4. It’s a Designer’s Dream. Mulch is a great landscaping option as you can select from a variety of textures and colors. Colored mulch can enhance the visual appeal of your gardens and shrubs. Choose from reds, golds and other colors, or select a double-shredded mulch for a finer texture.
  5. It Keeps the Gardens Looking Great. It not only looks great in your yard, but it also keeps soil from splashing up on your plants and shrubs when it rains.

By the bag, by the bale or in bulk, mulch is a homeowner’s handiest landscaping supply. If you have questions about mulch, stop by your nearest Patio Town or send me an email at patch@patiotown.com!
