Escaped Horse Killed in Inwood Avenue Collision

A vehicle hit a horse that had escaped from a barn and wandered onto Inwood Avenue Sunday night.

A loose horse was killed after getting hit by a car heading north on Inwood Avenue at 15th Street Sunday evening.

The horse was among a group of eight to 10 that escaped from a nearby barn, said Washington County Sheriff’s Deputy John Stoffel.

Police got the call that the horses were on the road around 8 p.m., he said.

No one was hurt in the collision, but it did cause major damage to the front end of the vehicle that hit the horse, he said. No other cars were involved in the crash, he said.

Stoffel said there are some areas of the county where horses escape from their home property often, but this isn’t one of them. He said he didn’t recall any past incidents where horses were running loose around 15th Street and Inwood Avenue.
