Father and Daughter Allegedly Worked Together to Shoplift

A man is charged with stealing electronics from the Target store in Oakdale, as well as others in the metro area.

A St. Paul father allegedly stole electronics from the store in Oakdale, and others in the metro area, with the help of his teenage daughter, according to a Washington County District Court complaint.

Randall C. Bryan, 41, is charged with aiding and abetting theft for allegedly stealing gaming systems and stereo equipment from Target stores on five occasions, the complaint says.

On May 5, video surveillance at Oakdale’s Target store shows Bryan carrying a $199 Xbox console to the furniture department, and three minutes later, his daughter pushing a cart with the console in it out of the furniture department, the complaint says. The two then pushed the cart out of the store without any attempt to pay for the items, according to the complaint.

On the same day, video surveillance shows the two returned to the Oakdale Target store and used the same method to steal a $599 Bose system, the complaint says, and between visits, they also allegedly stole another $199 Xbox console from a Target store in Bloomington.

Surveillance video also shows the two stealing an Xbox console and Kinect bundle from a Bloomington Target store on April 19, and stealing an Xbox console, Kinect bundle and Kinect Sensor from the Target store in Cottage Grove on April 25, the complaint says.

Bryan’s daughter told police that she knew they were stealing items, but that she didn’t know what happened to the items,  and nor was she being paid to help steal, the complaint says.

Bryan denied any knowledge of the thefts, according to the complaint.

Bryan is scheduled to make his initial appearance in court on Oct. 5.

He is charged with one count of aiding and abetting theft, and he faces a maximum sentence of five years in prison and $10,000 in fines.
