Flashing Neighbors, Garage Gashed, Paycheck Problems: Oakdale Police Blotter

Selected calls to the Oakdale Police Department from May 8-14.

The following information was obtained from recent police reports.

May 8

Oakdale police received a report that a Quantum Merchant Services employee wrote company checks out to petty cash and used the money, along with a company card, for personal expenses.

A miniature pinscher whose owner lives at the 6400 block of Upper 56th Street once again got loose. The owner didn’t want to get out of bed. She was again cited.

Two people reported that a man approached them at Tower Park and asked to use one of their cell phones. He then lifted his shirt and brandished a handgun. He did not point it at either person. The suspect gave back the cell phone and left. There was a BB gun found at his home. Police were investigating.

Police were called about a man with a cane jumping into traffic at the 6700 block of 10th Street. The man told an officer he was having trouble with his legs. Police gave him a ride home.

May 9

About $3,200 worth of tools were reported stolen from a contractors working on a building at the 300 block of Geneva Avenue North.

The door handle of a garage at the 6900 block of 10th Street was broken and contents were rummaged through, though nothing appeared to have been stolen.

Police were called on a report of a large fight involving juveniles at Tower Park. One ran but was caught. The child told police there was going to be a fight because of a previous fight, but police arrived before it went down.

May 10

Someone crashed an SUV into a garage at the 4100 block of Geneva Avenue and sped off. There was a vehicle-sized hole in one wall and cars inside the garage were damaged.

A resident called about a child under 2 years old who was left unattended in a car at SuperAmerica. The car was gone by the time police arrived and the plate number given didn’t match the vehicle description.

A resident at the 6600 block of Seventh Street reported that his tax-return check was stolen from his mailbox. Other mail was found in the street.

A worker at United Auto Dealers called police after a fellow employee called and was upset because he hadn’t yet received his paycheck. He was swearing and said “stuff is going to start to happen.” Police made contact with him, and he said he didn’t make any threats. The check was in the mail.

Police were called about a disturbance at the 4000 block of Geneva Avenue and learned a man may have had a heroin overdose. He had left by the time police arrived and was found at a nearby church suffering from a medical condition. He was transported to Regions Hospital. Police learned he had a felony warrant out for his arrest in Ramsey County, and authorities there said they would go to the hospital.

Two teens seen drinking at the Family Dollar were found with an open can of beer in their car. One registered a .016 on a preliminary breath test and both were cited.

A Saturn was reported stolen from the 1200 block of Gentry Avenue. It had been left after it overheated and was apparently not towed.

A resident at the 6400 block of 15th Street Place called police after someone moved her patio furniture and poured birdseed between her screen door and patio door. The caller told police she has had previous issues with a neighbor. The neighbor told police a yard maintenance company was out working that day.

May 11

Police were called to the 1500 block of Hallmark Avenue North on an assault report. A woman said two men, known to her, entered the home through the unlocked front door and beat up her boyfriend. She was also punched during the incident. He refused to press charges, but she planned to do so. Both declined medical attention.

There was a domestic assault at the 3500 block of Gershwin Avenue.

May 12

A resident called police about a recreational fire at the 6400 block of Sixth Street North that he said had flames going as high as a house. An officer arrived and found the fire was within limits (it was about 2-3 feet high), and there was a hose nearby.

May 13

An Oakdale woman called police after she sent someone she met through Match.com a wire transfer for $400. She had not heard back and believed he was somewhere in Europe.

A West St. Paul man was cited for theft after he stole disposable needs and a syringe from Mills Fleet Farm.

Someone spray-painted the Nazi symbol and “white power” on a basketball court at Eastside Park.

Police were following up on reports of a man sitting in a chair naked from the waist down with the door of his apartment wide open. The apartment is at the 1000 block of Hadley Avenue.

There were reports of vehicle break-ins at LA Fitness.

Police were called 1500 block of Granada Avenue after one person threatened to beat up another for selling him a stolen bicycle. Police were investigating the possible theft.

May 14

A resident told police she believed her windshield was broken by gunfire at the 3700 block of Interstate 694. The windshield was broken May 6.
