Houseguest Allegedly Steals Electronics to Buy Drugs, ODs

A Stacy, Minn., man faces a felony theft charge after he allegedly stole electronics while he was staying at a friend’s apartment in Oakdale and used the money to buy drugs.

Andrew Michael Ouimet, 21, also overdosed from the drugs he exchanged for the stolen goods, according to the criminal complaint.

Oakdale police on Sept. 10, 2012, received a report from a man who said he noticed $1,635 worth of electronics and video games missing from his apartment after he allowed a friend to stay there while he was away at his parents’ home for the weekend.

Officers made contact with Ouimet, who admitted he took taking the items and exchanged them for heroin and cocaine, and told police he overdosed at the apartment building on Sept. 8, 2012, according to the complaint. Records from the Oakdale Fire Department show that there was a response to the building, and Ouimet was hospitalized.

The stolen items included a laptop computer, a Playstation 3, numerous games and DVDs.

If convicted on the theft charge, he faces up to five years in prison and a $10,000 fine.
