Man Gets Angry When Person Won't Share Pumpkins: Oakdale Police Blotter

Oakdale Police Department calls from Nov. 1-2. Look for more calls in Tuesday's newsletter.

Correction: A previous version of this story included an incorrect blood-alcohol content for a Nov. 2 incident near the intersection of 10th Street North and Geneva Avenue North.

The following information was obtained from recent Oakdale Police reports.

Nov. 1

An assist motorist call in the 7000 block of 50th Street North. The car owner arrived with a new battery and started the vehicle.

An animal complaint in the 1100 block of Hadley Avenue North. A man was walking from 10th Street to Hadley and noticed a border collie on the path. When they got near the dog, it growled and showed its teeth. They got away from the dog. An officer could not find the dog.

A suspicious activity call in the 100 block of Greystone Avenue North. A man has received an anonymous call once or twice a week for the past two years. He thinks the calls are from outside the United States. An officer told him to trace the call three to five times and then contact the police department.

A miscellaneous information information call in the 6400 block of 15th Street North. A member of the association board for Charter Oaks said someone has been tampering with vehicles. They would like police officers check the parking areas on a regular basis.

A suspicious activity call in the 1400 block of Granada Avenue North. A person reported "something suspicious in the woods" and led the officer to a hole that was 5 feet deep by 3 feet wide. Two spade shovels, shopping cart and pruning shears were in the hole, covered by a piece of plywood. The officer took pictures of the area and will let Public Works know the hole needs to be filled.

A suspicious activity call in the 6200 block of 12th Street North. A person reported the smell of marijuana from an apartment in the area. An officer smelled the marijuana and knocked on the door, but no one answered, even though the officer could hear people talking inside.

An unauthorized use of motor vehicle call in the 6400 block of Lower 57th Street North. A mother called to say her son took his car to Pipestone and would not return it. The officer told her it was a civil matter. The mother will call her son to work out the situation.

A malicious mischief call in the 2600 block of Granite Avenue Circle North. A man said he heard a vehicle with a loud exhaust pipe drive by and then saw paintball marks on his vehicle. The officer searched the area and could not find the person responsible. The officer also noticed paintball marks on two other vehicles in the area.

An alarm call at Fleet Farm Gas Mart. An officer responded and the building seemed secure.

An animal complaint in the 4900 block of Grenwich Avenue North. Someone said a dog was barking in the area. The officer could hear the dog barking, but no one answered the door.

A 911 call in the 3800 block of Granada Way North. No one answered the phone and no one answered the door. The "officer found no signs of criminal activity."

A miscellaneous information call in the 1500 block of Granada Avenue North. A man said he believes his apartment building company is fraudulent because they misspelled "corporation" on a refrigerator magnet. The officer told the man "it was most likely a simple mistake." The officer sent a report of the discussion to Washington County Social Services.

A suspicious activity call in the 700 block of Glenbrook Avenue North. Someone saw two juveniles walking around, one with a hatchet and the other on a skateboard. The officer who responded found no one.

Nov. 2

A criminal damage to property call in the 7300 block of Stillwater Boulevard. An officer found a damage mailbox in the road and returned it to its owner.

A disturbance call in the 6100 block of 40th Street North. A woman said she went to pick up her son and he was crying. The boy had an argument with his father about his use of his cell phone. The son said the father grabbed his hood when he tried to run, which caused the neckline to pull. The boy was not injured and there were no visible marks. The boy left with his mother.

A criminal damage to property call in the 7000 block of 24th Street North. Pumpkins at a woman's home were thrown at her front door. She asked if officers could patrol the area more often. The officer did not find any suspicious activity.

A criminal damage to property call in the 2000 block of Helena Road North. An officer saw pumpkins damaged in the driveway of a residence. The home had a surveillance camera. The officer will contact the homeowners to get the surveillance footage.

An open door call in the 2600 block of Granite Avenue Circle North. An officer noticed an overhead garage door open. A vehicle, bike and other items were visible from the street. The officer called the resident, who said he thinks he left the door open by mistake.

A suspicious person call near the intersection of Gresham Avenue and Stillwater Boulevard. An officer saw a man wearing dark clothing with a hood. The officer talked to person and determined it was a man walking home. The officer gave him a ride home.

A medical call in the 500 block of Granada Avenue North. An officer responded to a call about a man who fell in the road. The man had an injury to his face. The man did not want the officer to call for an ambulance. The officer took the man home.

A theft call in the 1300 block of Gentry Avenue North. An officer saw a concrete rain catch basin was used to smash a front passenger door window on a vehicle. The car owner's wallet, cash, driver's license, debit cards and EBT card were stolen.

A theft call in the 100 block of Grenadier Avenue North. A woman reported her vehicle was possibly stolen. The vehicle had been recovered at a St. Paul address a couple of weeks ago and the same person might've taken it this time.

A parking complaint in the 2200 block of Helena Avenue North. A person asked for street parking permits because they are installing a new driveway. The officer told him he will have to move the vehicles off the street if we get 2 inches or more of snow.

A permit violation call in the 8000 block of 9th Street Way North. A person said an older man in a Buick asked if he could have the person's Halloween pumpkins. The person said no and the man became angry. Officers could not locate the man.

An animal complaint in the 900 block of Glenbrook Avenue North. A person found a small white dog with a collar and tags. An officer located the owner and gave her a citation. She previously was warned about the same thing in June 2013.

A public nuisance call near the intersection of 7th Street North and Glenbrook Avenue North. Someone reported a man was walking into traffic. An officer found the man standing on the shoulder of 7th Street and have him a blood-alcohol test. The result was .249, so the officer took him to Ramsey County Detox and issued him a citation for public nuisance.

A check welfare call in the 1600 block of Granada Avenue North. Two people were having an argument on the side of the road in Grant Township. A person who passed by said one of the people involved was acting strange. When the officer talked to the person, he said he "'flipped out' because he has several medical issues and is tired of dealing with them. He did not want to be transported to the hospital.

An assist public call near the intersection of 15th Street North and Hallmark Lane North. A man trying to repossess a vehicle asked for an officer's assistance. When the officer arrives, the man said the person had turned over the keys.

An unauthorized use of motor call in the 1200 block of Gentry Avenue North. A woman called to say her son took her vehicle. The officer called her and she said her son returned the vehicle.

A civil call at Goodyear Tire. A woman was upset about her vehicle being towed without her permission. She parked it at Tommy Pastrami's because it was having mechanical issues. A Tommy Pastrami's employee told the manager the vehicle was blocking customer access and was leaking fluid. The manager called to have it towed. The officer told the woman it was a civil issue.

An alarm call in the 6800 block of 8th Street Lane North. A fire alarm went off after a resident burned food in the oven. The resident canceled the alarm.

An underaged drinking and driving call near the intersection of 10th Street North and Geneva Avenue North. An officer saw a vehicle going 61 in a 40 mph zone. The vehicle then pulled into a driveway to try to lose the officer. The officer talked to the man and noticed an odor of alcohol on his breath. The man was 19 and had a revoked driver's license. His blood-alcohol content was .073. The officer gave him a citation and the vehicle was towed.

A neighbor dispute in the 5400 block of Golfview Avenue North. A person said their neighbor bent a small chicken wire fence down on the property line that they had up to keep rabbits out. The officer talked to the neighbor, who said the fence is ugly but agreed to straighten it.

A theft call at Fleet Farm. An employee said there was a possible theft in progress. When the officer arrived, the employee said a customer hid about $250 in merchandise and left the business. The employee followed the customer outside and was able to get the merchandise back. However, the person drove away before the officer arrived.The officer called the customer and left a message.

An open door call in the 6500 block of 50th Street North. An officer noticed an open car door and contacted the owner. He said he was watching his grandchildren and probably forgot to close the car door. No criminal activity was apparent.
