Man Gets Probation After Threatening to Kill Employees at Oakdale Law Firm

The firm represented the man's ex-wife in their divorce.

A Cottage Grove man was sentenced to two years of probation and jail time following his conviction for threatening to kill employees at an Oakdale law firm.

Fred William Messig, 44, made phone calls to the Inwood Avenue firm on May 3, 2012, and yelled obscenities at employees and said he would “come down there right now and kill all of you,” according to the criminal complaint.

The firm had represented Messig’s wife in their divorce, which was granted in March 2012.

During one of the phone calls, an employee at the law firm tried to help Messig, who told the worker that he was trying to get his “stuff,” the complaint says.

It was when the employee offered her assistance that he made the expletive-laced threat, according to the complaint.

The worker and other staffers locked the doors and called police.

Officers made contact with Messig, who said he called the office because he was mad, according to the complaint.

Other conditions of his parole include abstaining from alcohol and drugs, submitting to random testing, remaining law abiding and submitting a DNA sample.
