Oakdale 2012 Crime Rate Higher than Washington County's Overall

About a quarter of crimes in Oakdale were 'cleared,' a Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension annual report for 2012 says. That's about half the proportion for crimes across the county or the state.

Oakdale's crime rate is higher and its percentage of "cleared crimes" lower than for Washington County or the State of Minnesota overall.

That's according to annual figures released this week for 2012 by the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension (BCA).

Oakdale's 2012 figures:

Crime rate per 100,000 inhabitants (and percent cleared)
Population: 27,358 (234,496 total for Washington County; 5,344,861 statewide)
Part 1 Crime*: 4,741 (2,578 for Washington County; 2,775 statewide)
Part 2 Crime*: 4,935 (4,466 for Washington County; 4,042 statewide)
Combined Crime Rate: 9,675 (7,044 for Washington County; 6,818 statewide)
Percent Cleared: 26 (46 for Washington County; 48 statewide)

Clearing a crime can mean the arrest of person, but it can also include a number of other circumstances (offender suicide, offender dies after confessing, offender killed by police, offender confesses while in custody for another crime, victim refuses to cooperate and more).

2012 Narcotics Arrests: 46 total (37 male, 9 female)
Opium, cocaine, etc.: 1
Marijuana: 37
Synthetic: 3
Other (includes meth): 5
