UPDATE: Oakdale Fire Department responds to chemical spill at Fleet Farm

The Oakdale Fire and Police Departments responded to a chemical spill at the facility, which resulted in a small fire in a dumpster.

The Oakdale Fire Department responded to a call from at 1:40 p.m. today regarding a chemical spill at its facility located at 5635 Hadley Avenue.

The store was closed this afternoon for more than an hour after the building was evacuated, said Oakdale Fire Chief Jeff Anderson.

Swimming pool chemicals were spilled into the company's trash compactor. Anderson said they believe the swimming pool chemicals may have interracted with organic material in the trash compactor.

As a result from the fumes, Anderson said a fire started in a nearby dumpster. Firefighters contained and extinguished the fire before it had time to spread from the dumpster.

"Since then the store has reopened and there is no further danger to anyone," Anderson said.
