Oakdale Fire Department Set to Host Special Event

The Oakdale Fire Department will be hosting an event on Monday, Oct. 8.

The Oakdale Fire Department will be giving residents an inside-look at what they do day-in and day-out.

The fire department will be hosting an open house at its fire station at 5000 Hadley Avenue from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 8.

Residents will be allowed to tour the firehouse, see firefighter gear, equipment and vehicles, learn about fire safety and ask firefighters about their jobs.

The fire department will also perform an extrication demonstration, which will show what firefighters do in a real-life scenario if someone gets into a car accident.

"Someone donated a car to us, so we're basically going to show how the job works," said Paul Eaton, a firefighter, EMT and fire prevention specialist with the fire department. "We'll show how we'd have to cut up the roof and all the tools we use."

Eaton said that in past years the fire department is also planning another event on Halloween at the fire department's second station on 15th Street.
