The Ramsey County Attorney's Office has charged a 38-year-old Oakdale man for allegedly sexually assaulting a woman recently in the parking lot of a Roseville shopping center.

Kevin Johnson faces one count of fourth-degree criminal sexual conduct, according to a Monday news update from the Roseville Police Department. He is scheduled to make an initial court appearance at 1:20 p.m. June 14 at the Ramsey County Law Enforcement Center in St. Paul.

If convicted of his charge, Johnson could face a sentence of up to 10 years in prison or a $20,000 fine or both.

The County Attorney's complaint against Johnson comes after he turned himself into Roseville police on May 24 in connection with the alleged assault.

Patch reported earlier that a chaplain from the east metro sheriff's department recognized Johnson from video surveillance photos that law enforcement officials made available to local media.

According to police reports, the chaplain recognized the suspect captured on business surveillance imaging and called and spoke with him. The suspect and the chaplain traveled to the Roseville Police Department. The suspect, later identified as Johnson, was interviewed by detectives and later booked at the Ramsey County Law Enforcement Center on fourth-degree criminal sexual conduct.

According to Roseville police reports, Johnson allegedly sexually assaulted a 51-year-old woman at about 8:20 p.m. May 18 in the parking lot of the Crossroads of Roseville Mall, 1643-1645 County Road B2 W.

"According to the victim, she had left the mall and was placing items into the trunk of her automobile when she felt someone grab her buttocks and partially push her into the trunk of her car,'' according to Roseville police. "The victim said she than felt the suspect grind his groin into her buttocks. The victim said the suspect stopped assaulting her only when she began to kick him."
