Oakdale Man Charged With Beating and Choking Woman

Cell phone communication with an ex-boyfriend sparked the assault, the complaint says.

An Oakdale man was charged with domestic assault for allegedly strangling and beating a woman in his home after she exchanged text messages with another man.

Brandon Scott Larsen, 25, faces charges on three counts of domestic assault in Washington County District Court.

According to the court complaint, police were called to Larsen’s home in the 7500 block of 15th Street Lane around 5 a.m. on Feb. 1 after a neighbor reported that someone knocked at their door.

When officers arrived, they heard a woman screaming “help me” at Larsen’s house, the complaint says. They ran up to the door and saw Larsen standing over the distraught woman, according to the complaint.

The woman had injuries all over her body including multiple abrasions to her face; swelling around both eyes; bloodshot eyes; damaged blood vessels around one eye; abrasions, redness and bruising on her neck; bruising and redness on her shoulders; evidence that hair had been pulled from her head; redness and bruising on her left bicep and forearm; a large bruise in the middle of her back with a distinct footprint and abrasions on her knees she said were caused by Larsen dragging her on the carpet, the complaint says.

In a recorded statement, the woman told police that she had been dating Larsen, and she had gone out for drinks with him earlier in the night, the complaint says. When they got home she started talking to her ex-boyfriend on the phone, who is also a friend of Larsen’s, the complaint says.

Because of who she was talking to, Larsen started punching her in the head, she told police. He allegedly kicked, punched, stomped on, choked and dragged her, she said, according to the complaint.

She said she was able to get away, and ran next door, screaming for help and knocking on the door, but that Larsen came outside and dragged her back into his home, according to the complaint. He allegedly dragged her near the kitchen table, broke a chair next to her, she said, and then kicked her and hit her in the head several times and also stomped on the front and back of her neck, the complaint says.

Larsen allegedly choked her to the point she thought he might kill her and said “see what you do to me,” the complaint says. She said she vomited blood in the bathroom after being choked, according to the complaint.

She then told Larsen she was going to call the police, but he allegedly grabbed the phone from her and threw it against the bedroom wall, breaking it, according to the complaint. Police observed the broken phone, the complaint says.

Police asked Larsen what happened, and he said he made a mistake, the complaint says. He said the woman had been texting her ex-boyfriend, which led to an argument, the complaint says. En route to the jail, he “kept making unsolicited statements that he is a good person that works and ‘these’ women make him ‘crazy,’” the complaint says.

Larsen is charged with domestic assault by strangulation, which has a maximum sentence of three years in prison and $5,000 in fines; interfering with a 911 call, which carries a maximum sentence of one year in prison and $3,000 in fines and misdemeanor domestic assault, which has a maximum sentence of 90 days in prison and $1,000 in fines.

His next court appearance is scheduled for Feb. 16.
