Domonic C. Sofie, 18, of Oakdale, allegedly was one of three men who got out of a truck around 11 a.m. Monday, June 13, used a hammer and a metal spikes to dent and gouge the car, and spray painted “spot reserved” on the hood of the car, according to the complaint.

Police tracked down Sofie after seeing in surveillance video that his vehicle was involved in the incident, the complaint says.

The damaged car’s owner—who is the proprietor of a business adjacent to Smokedale Tobacco—told police he had parked in front of the tobacco shop, according to the court complaint.

Sofie told police that owner Hatem Younis offered him $150 to damage the car, the complaint says. He said he picked up two friends, brought them to the parking lot, and then they damaged the vehicle together, the complaint says.

Younis said he doesn’t know Sofie and he wasn’t involved in the property damage incident.

Sofie said he spray painted “spot reserved” on the car, while the two people with him damaged the car with a hammer and a spike, the complaint says.

Sofie is charged with first-degree aiding and abetting damage to property, according to the court complaint, which carries a maximum penalty of five years in prison and $10,000 in fines.
