Oakdale Man Charged with Raping 16-Year-Old Girl

Anton Deshawn Kelly is in the Washington County Jail on a $30,000 bond.

An Oakdale man has been charged with raping a 16-year-old girl who told police she ended up staying at the man’s house after she ran away from home.

Anton Deshawn Kelly, 20, remains in the Washington County Jail on a $30,000 bond. He is charged with third-degree criminal sexual conduct, a felony with a maximum penalty of 15 years in prison and a $30,000 fine.

According to the criminal complaint, Oakdale police were called to a business just after 7 a.m. Oct. 13 to check on the victim’s welfare. When they couldn’t find the victim, they called her mother, who said her daughter called and said she needed help because she was being followed.

During that conversation, police got a call from the victim, who was at a nearby bar and asking for help.

The victim, who was “visibly shaking and upset,” told police that she was afraid “he”—later identified as Kelly—had followed her. As she followed an officer to her squad car, the victim looked toward a nearby townhouse complex and said, “Oh, my God, there he is. He’s there. He’s going to think I called the cops,” according to the complaint.

The girl identified the man as Kelly and said he had sexually assaulted her, but police were unable to apprehend him.

The victim told police she had run away from home a week earlier and had been staying with a friend. After that friend was arrested, she moved in with Kelly.

The girl told officers that she slept with Kelly in his bedroom, because he told her that his mother—who also lived in the townhouse—didn’t allow guests to sleep on the living-room sofa. During her stay at Kelly’s home, he showed her a gun and told her it was his, and tried to “cuddle” with her while the two were in bed.

On Oct. 12, the girl went with Kelly to the Mall of America, where Kelly bought her some clothes. The two then went to a party, leaving for Kelly’s house about 2 a.m.

The two were lying in bed when Kelly began kissing the victim’s neck, she told police. When she told him to stop, he told her he had been nice to her and had bought her an outfit. The girl struggled, but a naked Kelly climbed on top of her and raped her, according to the complaint. When she told him to stop, he stopped, but sexually assaulted her again a few minutes later, the girl said.

The victim said she stayed awake most of the night. She said she was sitting outside the townhouse in the morning when Kelly came out and asked her to come back inside. The girl told Kelly he “took advantage” of her. “Do you mean I raped you?” Kelly asked, according to the complaint, and the girl said yes.

The girl left, but she believed that Kelly was following her, and called 911.

In addition to the rape charge, Kelly has several pending felony offenses in Washington County, according to the complaint. He is scheduled to make an initial appearance on the rape charge Nov. 27 in Washington County District Court.
