Oakdale Man Charged with Receiving Stolen Property

Man allegedly pawned items stolen from an Oakdale home.

An Oakdale man is charged with receiving stolen property for allegedly trying to pawn about $6,450 worth of items that were stolen from an Oakdale home.

Domonic Christopher Sofie, 18, allegedly pawned two diamond rings, a diamond necklace, and flat-screen television that were stolen from the home of a neighbor, according to the Washington County District Court Complaint.

A resident in the 6800 block of 29th Street in Oakdale reported Oct. 27, 2010, that someone had entered her home between 2:20 and 6 p.m. and stolen the items, the complaint says. There was no sign of forced entry, however the service door to the garage was unlocked, according to the complaint.

The resident said she suspected Sofie, and a pawn system check the next day revealed that he had pawned the items at two pawn shops, the complaint says.

Sofie denied stealing the items in an interview with police, and said he pawned the items for a friend, the complaint says. He said the friend was with him on all four occasions he pawned items, however the friend said he was only with him on one occasion, the complaint says. Another friend who drove Sofie to pawn the television said Sofie stated that the remote control no longer worked on the television, and so he wanted to get rid of it, the complaint says.
