Oakdale Man's Murder Trial Set to Begin

Dao Xiong allegedly killed a man who was trying to sell a car on Craigslist.

The trial of an Oakdale man charged with first-degree murder for allegedly killing a man he met through Craigslist starts Monday with jury selection, the Star Tribune reports, in Washington County District Court.

Dao Xiong is charged with murdering a St. Paul man in September who had advertised on Craigslist that his 2003 Nissan 350Z was for sale, the report says.

Xiong told police he never intended to buy the car, rather, under the pretense of a test drive, he took the St. Paul man, You Lor, to a remote area of Lake Elmo and shot him, then took the car to his home in Oakdale and stripped it, according to the Star Tribune report.

In October, the Oakdale-Lake Elmo Review reported that the two men were not acquaintances, and their families do not know each other.

Police found Xiong using cell phone records, and then found parts from the car in his home as well as a handgun, which he admitted was the murder weapon, according to the Oakdale-Lake Elmo Review report.
