Oakdale Police Blotter: Craigslist Buyer Uses Counterfeit Cash

In other reports, someone said a helicopter was flying around erratically, and a vandal caused thousands of dollars worth of pool damage.

A man who sold an amplifier through Craigslist reported Tuesday, May 8, that the $100 bill he’d been paid with was counterfeit, according to an Oakdale Police Department report.

He said he met the buyer at on April 18 to sell him the amp, the report says. When he later tried to use the $100 bill, he learned it was counterfeit, according to the report.

He said he called and emailed the man who purchased the item, but he denied knowing the money was counterfeit and refused to give the complainant more money, the report says.

  • A resident in the 1500 block of Goodview Avenue reported that between April 29 and May 4 someone took a $1,500 gold chain with pendant and a gold bracelet engraved with a name on it. He said the jewelry was on his bedroom dresser, and he had at least 20 people over to his house at one point for a wedding meeting. He didn’t have any suspects.
  • Someone stole a notebook computer from a vehicle parked in a driveway in the 6200 block of Seventh Street between 8:30 p.m. May 6 and 7 a.m. the next day. The owner thought the car was locked, however, there were no signs of forced entry.
  • A woman reported that she forgot her iPhone on a table at between 4:30 and 7:30 p.m. and when she went back to get the phone someone had taken it. The GPS tracker showed it was at a home in the 6900 block of 40th Street in Oakdale, however, no one was home when an officer went to the address.
  • A complainant reported that someone took her Apple iPod Touch from the in-school suspension room at between 12:30 and 1:30 p.m. The complainant had a suspect.
  • An Oakdale resident reported that someone filed their income taxes using his Social Security number. He filed a report with the FBI and IRS, but wanted an Oakdale case number as well.
  • Someone reported that a blue and white helicopter was flying erratically around the area of . The officer learned from the dispatch center that it was a mosquito control helicopter.
  • A resident in the 6500 block of Fifth Street reported that a black lab ran unleashed into her yard and growled at her. She wanted the dog’s owner to be warned regarding the city’s leash law.
  • A man called police to report that when he called his online girlfriend, a man answered and he got into an argument with the man. The officer told the man not to call the woman’s number anymore.

May 8:

  • A woman reported that someone obtained her debit card information and made $450 worth of charges in London.
  • A $150 GPS device was stolen from an unlocked vehicle parked at the between noon and 12:40 p.m.
  • A resident in the 6300 block of 43rd Street who had been away since January found on April 28 that someone had broken open a fence gate and tossed a landscaping block in his pool causing $2,784 damage to the pool.
  • A resident in the 4000 block of Granada Avenue reported that he lost his black leather wallet after he left it on the rear bumper of his brother’s car. He said his brother drove off and did not know where the wallet had fallen off. The wallet contined $50 cash, financial cards and the man’s driver’s license.
