Oakdale Police Blotter: Group Jumped at Tanners Lake Park

A woman and two men said they were attacked by a group of 9 to 13 men when they entered Tanners Lake Park Monday.

A 19-year-old St. Paul woman and two male friends reported they were attacked by a group of nine to 13 men at at about 8 p.m. Monday, July 18.

The men had driven off in two cars before police arrived.

The Oakdale Fire Department responded and took one of the men—a 19-year-old from St. Paul—to Regions Hospital due to a laceration on his mouth.

There is no known motive for the attack, said Community Affairs Officer Michelle Stark.

Police are investigating the incident.

There was a similar, but more serious, incident at the park on July 11, 2008. A 20-year-old St. Paul man who was with a group of men was convicted of stabbing an 18-year-old St. Paul man in the park. The charges reflect that police thought the incident was gang-related.

The following incidents were also reported to Oakdale police July 18-19:

July 18:

  • Between 8:30 p.m. Sunday, July 17, and 10:30 a.m. the next day, someone entered an unlocked shed in a backyard in the 2200 block of Helena Road and stole a $250 power washer.
  • An Oakdale man reported that he received a call from someone saying they were with the government grant department. They told him he would receive a $7,000 grant, but he had to wire $199 before he would get the money. He did not send any money.

July 19:

  • Someone forced entry into an apartment in the 4100 block of Geneva Avenue causing $900 damage to the doorframe.
  • A resident in a group home in the 2400 block of Hamlet Avenue allegedly attacked a staff member by grabbing her arms, pulling her head down by her ears and then pounding on her back and head with her arms and fist. The resident admitted to hitting the complainant.
