Oakdale Police Blotter: Man Caught Changing License Plates

In other reports, someone stole two letters from the front of Eagle Point Elementary School.

A man with no permanent address was cited for driving after cancellation and receiving stolen property after an employee at allegedly observed him remove a license plate from the back of his vehicle and put two different plates on the vehicle around noon Monday, May 16, according to an Oakdale police report.

After getting the call, police stopped the 41-year-old driver on westbound Highway 36 near Hadley Avenue, the report says.

Police determined that his driver’s license was cancelled. When searching the vehicle, police also found a license plate behind the rear seat that had been stolen in Belle Plaine and used in a gas drive-off in Coon Rapids, the report says.

The man was also cited for not having insurance, the report says.

  • Someone stole the “T” and the “L” from over the entrance of .
  • Someone at reported that a man switched the price tag on a roll of wire so that he ended up paying $512 less than the cost of the wire. The same suspect has committed similar thefts in Burnsville and Fridley.
  • A CD player/stereo valued at $170 was stolen from an unlocked vehicle parked in a driveway in the 1200 block of Gentry Avenue.
  • An Oakdale resident reported receiving a phone call from a man claiming to represent “America Cash,” and saying he was delinquent on a payment and asking for bank account information. He did not provide information to the male caller.
  • A resident reported that a sinkhole was forming next to the sewer drain at Heron Lane and Hilo Avenue. Police found a 2 foot-by-2 foot sinkhole, placed cones around it, and notified public works.
  • Gas Mart (5501 Hadley Ave.) reported that a man pumped $51 worth of gas and drove off without paying for it. Police have the license plate numbers and are following up.
