Oakdale Police Blotter: Man Crashes at Holiday, Flees Police

A Wisconsin man crashed his SUV at 10th Street and Hadley Avenue in what was described as a rollover accident, and then fled police.

A Wisconsin man hid from police after crashing his SUV at the Holiday Gas Station at 10th Street and Hadley Avenue around 11 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 10, according to an Oakdale Police Department report.

The 27-year-old Menomonie man crashed into a concrete pylon and gas vents in what was reported as a rollover accident, and then fled north on foot, the report says.

Police found the man lying behind an orange construction fence east of the gas station, and he took off running again, the report says. He was arrested after he was found hiding in a bush at Kentucky Fried Chicken, according to the report. He had a strong odor of alcohol and slurred speech, the report says. The vehicle he was driving was found to be stolen, and open beer cans were in the vehicle according to the report.

  • A man passed a counterfeit $100 bill at on Sept. 3. He also passed counterfeit bills in Cottage Grove.

Sept. 8:

  • A lawn mower, wood chipper, chainsaw and gas can with a total value of $935 were stolen from a shed in the 4100 block of Gershwin Avenue between Sept. 1 and Sept. 8.
  • A 12-year-old boy was cited for hitting a 13-year-old boy with an uncoated metal slap bracelet causing a 5 to 6 inch cut on his neck.
  • A 15-year-old reported that his $300 cell phone was stolen from a table at .
  • Police received a complaint about a man who was selling cleaning products door-to-door in the 2300 block of Heath Avenue. The man said he had a permit to solicit in Oakdale, but could not produce a copy of the permit. Police drove him to a nearby gas station to meet his ride, and told him he could not solicit until he had a copy of the permit.
  • An Oak Run Shores townhouse complex was evacuated after police got a report of a suicidal man with a gun alone in on of the townhouses. After several phone calls to the residence in the 400 block of Hickory Lane, police were able to speak with the man and convince him to exit the residence. He told police he was depressed and was transported to Regions Hospital.
  • A garage door opener was stolen from a vehicle left unlocked in the 6500 block of Fifth Street between 9 p.m. Sept. 7 and 9 a.m. the next day.

Sept. 9:

  • A purse containing financial cards and other items a GPS device with a total value of $545 were stolen from a car parked in the 4600 block of Hale Avenue. There was no damage to the vehicle, and it was unclear how someone entered it. All of the items were recovered in a bush at a home in the 7000 block of 44th Street except for the GPS device, two credit cards and a driver’s license.
  • Police captured a black Labrador retriever with a history of aggressive behavior that was at large in the 7500 block of 46th Street way. The dog had been repeatedly returning to the area, and had been declared a nuisance. The dog has mange, warts and is blind in its right eye. It was found with a collar, but no tags.
  • A wallet containing a driver’s license, public aid card and $50 was stolen from a vehicle parked in the 3800 block of Granada Lane with its windows down between 1 and 1:15 p.m. The total value of the items stolen is $250.

Sept. 10:

  • Someone threw a brick through the passenger-side window of a car parked in the 2600 block of Hilo Avenue. Nothing was stolen from the car.
  • Sunglasses and a Wells Fargo check card were stolen from an unlocked vehicle in the 2600 block of Henslow Avenue.
  • A complainant reported seeing a 2-year-old boy walking around a parking lot in the 1200 block of Gentry Avenue with only a diaper on and no supervision. Police found the apartment where the child lived and found a 19-year-old man sleeping on the couch who was unaware the child was missing and a 23-year-old woman also present. Police contacted the child’s mother, who returned home.
  • Someone stole Nintendo DS and Mario DS games with a total value of $200 from an unlocked vehicle parked in the 2100 block of Holly Avenue between 9 p.m. Sept. 9 and noon the next day.
  • Police helped get a cat out of a sewer at 15th Street and Hydram Avenue by lifting the grates and coaxing the cat out.

Sept. 11:

  • A motorcycle and high-end tools were stolen from an unattached garage in the 6100 block of Upper 51st Street. Someone gained entry through a poorly secured service door. The total value of the items stolen was $16,152. 
  • Two folding rocking chairs with a total value of $100 were stolen from the deck of a home in the 500 block of Glenbrook Avenue between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m.
  • Someone pumped $74 worth of gas and the drove off from the Holiday gas station at Highway 5 and Hadley Avenue.
